Core Values & Beliefs

Hillside exists to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

In 1922 at on Main Street in Napa CA, 4 sisters started a small group to study the Bible in their home. Because of their dedication to the gospel, now over 100 years later, Hillside Church exists. Hillside is more than just a building. It’s the story of FAITHFUL men and women, coming together to tell the world about the hope of Jesus.

OUR CORE VALUES

The following are the core beliefs of HCC NAPA based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

WE BELIEVE
 THE BIBLE

We believe God speaks to us through the Scriptures, so the Bible is our ultimate authority, guiding us in thought, word, and action.
(2 Tim 3:16-17; Psalm 119:105)

WE SHARE OUR FAITH WITH OTHERS

We believe that every Christian is responsible for living out their faith in Jesus before others in a tangible way.   (Philemon 6)

WE PURSUE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

We believe God desires a relationship with every individual. This relationship grows through prayer, meditation, worship, Bible study, and listening to and obeying the Holy Spirit.
(James 4:8; 1 Chronicles 28:9)

WE SERVE OUR CHURCH & COMMUNITY

We believe every Christian is uniquely called, specifically positioned and supernaturally equipped to build the church worldwide.
(1 Peter 4:10-11; Ephesians 4:11-13)

WE PURSUE AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS

We believe relationships that express care, accountability, and a sense of belonging are critical for us to grow together in faith.
(Proverbs 27:17; Hebrews 10:24-25)

WE GIVE
GENEROUSLY

We believe we have been blessed to be a blessing. Hillside gives generously to the world around us, both locally and globally.
(Romans 10:14-15)

WE BELIEVE IN THE NEXT GENERATION

We believe our role is to support ministry that appeals to people less than 30 years of age without alienating older men and women. Every generation is necessary to grow a healthy Christian community.
(Matt 18:3-6; Mark 10:16; 1 Tim 4:12)

OUR BELIEFS

The Scriptures declare His: Virgin Birth (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31,35); Sinless Life (Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22); Miracles (Acts 2:22; 10:38); Substitutionary Work on the Cross (1 Corinthians15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21); Bodily Resurrection from the Dead (Matthew 28:6; Luke 24:39; 1 Corinthians 15:4); Exaltation to the Right Hand of God (Acts1:9,11; 2:33; Philippians 2:9,11; Hebrews1:3); and His Personal & Imminent Return, and Millennial Reign. (I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 19:11-14; 20:1-6)

BIBLE
The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21)
HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the person of the Godhead who indwells, baptizes, and gives supernatural gifts to all believers for empowerment to witness and serve. His present work is the same as that in the New Testament. (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; 2:4; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, James 5:14-16)
CHURCH
The Church is to carry out the work of Christ in this world, equip people for ministry, and maintain the ordinances of the Church – Water Baptism and Communion. (Mark 16:15-16; 1 Corinthians 11:26; Ephesians 4:11-16)
MANKIND
All Humanity, created in the image of God male and female, having equal value, status, free to pursue relationship with God, good and upright, but by voluntary disobedience, fell into sin and thereby incurred physical and spiritual death, which is separation from God (Genesis1:26,27; 2:17; 3:6; Romans 5:12-19). Mankind’s only hope of salvation is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, giving us forgiveness of sin, eternal life, and power to live separated from evil through a regenerated heart. (John 3:16; 6:44,65; Romans 10:9-10; 12:1)

The One True God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the Creator of heaven and earth, the Redeemer of mankind. He has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10,11; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22)
